Stever,
I think people use the cellphone as a way around empowering the people around them, be it their children or employees.

Great post. Now my daughter's leaving home to go to University in September I feel my life can start again. I'm balancing between what seems possible and what seems too big a dream. Thanks for this post. It's timely and eloquent.

Yes, Yes, Yes...YES! The self-imposed notion that makes a person think that he/she cannot do/achieve something condemns one to the past and robs one of any future which might bring new freedoms, perspectives and horizons. In short, this thinking prevents progress and development. In the words of Susan Jeffers: "Feel the fear and do it anyway." Feel is in the mind, and emoto; and whilst emotions are powerful, valid and should be acknowledged, "we have nothing to fear but fear itself (Franklin Delano Roosevelt)".

Thanks you Stever, for sharing your insights and inspiratinal breakthroughs.

I loved reading, "If I truly couldn’t do it, I’d fail, and I’d have the perfect excuse: no reasonable person would have expected me to succeed. And if I could..."

And, I salute you since "... all progress depends on the unreasonable man."

That's a great insight! FEAR DOESN'T MATTER. By the same token, perhaps any emotional reaction doesn't matter. Whether we seem to be motivated by intense emotional drive or paralyzed by fear, in some pragmatic sense, it doesn't matter. Of course, we've heard this from Buddhist sages and puritanical taskmasters. Yet here we are, in a moment of great freedom. We each need to find our own way. From the inside out, we need and want our emotional landscape & it certainly appears efficient and perhaps more pleasurable to line up our emotions with our activities, but it may not be necessary or even relevant! That's a relief. So many advocate balance. Health seems to respond to balance, but art and perhaps achievement are about imbalance. We feel what we feel; we do what we do. The fine-tuning is to do what we truly want to do, because we have the freedom to make it real. Why not aim high? I may get there and I will still be feeling all my emotions. Boffo!

Very illuminating concept. The value of recoginising the wider picture is gaining ground in the business context by way of sustainability reporting. Ironically, while the wider picture was always a part of social planning in an invisible way, the current narrower focus on 'profitability' of social infrastructure seems to be 'missing the woods for the trees'. On the other hand, one of the challenges at the individual level may be: how to gain traction/buy in for the idea from other concerned 'stakeholders' e.g. family & community.
