How much time each day on average do you think you waste on email? Be sure to include:
- Time spent scanning and reading email that turns out to be irrelevant.
- Time spent “multi-tasking” back and forth because each email shoves you into a different train of thought?
- Time spent just calming down and re-centering from the anxiety of having a huge inbox backlog.
Email wastes hours and minutes of my time each day.
What is your yearly salary?
How many hours per week do you work? If you're on salary, the more you work, the less your actual hourly wage, and the cheaper it is to waste time. But if you want a life, you must handle your email in less time, so each wasted minute is much more valuable.
Personally, I understand everything in terms of sushi dinners. If I'm wasting $2,500/year coping with email, that's about 100 sushi dinners. Once it's in those terms, I understand how truly destructive email is to my life.
